After breaking a world record on March 15th, 2021, for having Most Videos of People Drawing Uploaded to Instagram in an Hour, Arts Help and The Remington Group are featured in the Guinness World Records 2022 book, released on September 16th, 2021. To achieve the milestone, Arts Help had 295 people from around the world taking videos of themselves drawing live - beating the minimum threshold of 250 and landing themselves on page 5 of the new book.
In hundreds of videos, people from the Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal, Pyramids of Giza and many other locations were seen taking part in Arts Help’s initiative to raise awareness for mental health issues during the COVID-19 pandemic through art therapy. The attempt happened alongside a free online art therapy session, Art for Health, led by Tiziana D’Angelo. The event encouraged participants to express their emotions and stress through a creative outlet and garnered over 20,000 online workshop participants.
Relating to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-Being, this initiative was in line with Arts Help’s programming that uses the power of art to make the world a better place.
Creating a Global Impact
Arts Help decided to use its programming and mighty social media presence of over 4 million followers across Instagram and TikTok to unite the global community towards a cause that transcended borders and the national lockdowns many were experiencing.
"After an unprecedented year of mental health struggles amid global lockdowns, it was critical for us to develop high impact programming that provided an outlet for people to express themselves creatively and promote mindfulness," said Mo Ghoneim, Founder of Arts Help, about the session.
The event was promoted via Art Help’s social channels and streamed across all social platforms. On the day of March 15, 2021 between 2-3 PM EST, using the hashtag #ArtsHelp2021, artists and members of the public from around the world, including school boards, NGOs and those at global landmarks, participated in the inclusive session that highlighted the importance of art therapy. As Tiziana D’Angelo emphasized, the process and emotional release of the session was what was important, not the final product.
Once the Guinness World Record got word of the news and confirmed the record virtually, the global mileston was announced two days following the art therapy event on a Zoom call with participants and organizers.
