Working with their frequent collaborator, the multimedia production house DELIVERED, Nuanu Creative Park has brought together Aurora Park, a light installation park that is open to the public, free of charge. The park materialized out of their understanding that Bali and Indonesia in general have a lack of accessible and free green spaces where locals can jog, trek and enjoy themselves.
The Aurora Park is decorated with biodegradable rattan sculptures that have been made in-house by Balinese artists who reside at the Nuanu Art Village. These sculptures come to life at night with the help of light and sound installations by DELIVERED, which had been developed alongside an Artificial Intelligence (AI) named Aurora—the park’s namesake. In the future, the developers hope that Aurora can be trained to also act as a visitor’s guide. So that members of the public can access Aurora through their phones and learn more about nature and artworks at the park. This is why Aurora Park at Nuanu Creative City is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Life on Land.
Located at the riverbanks of Nuanu’s jungle, Aurora Park contains a one-kilometre trail which occupies a 5,000 square metre area. Its light installations open to visitors at 7 pm daily and are made from climate-resistant materials that are all controlled by a single server. “With Aurora Park, we want each visitor to feel a personal connection to the art, nature and technology that define this space. By deeply engaging with these elements, we hope to inspire a sense of wonder that stays with them long after they leave,” says Nuanu founder, Sergey Solonin.
As Solonin had outlined, there are eight interactive light installation pieces at the park, which begins with Gate, an archway which shoots beams of light into the night sky as visitors pass through. The largest installation at the park is the Helix Root, an interactive illuminated rattan wicker sculpture in the shape of a helix. Helixes are structures shared by the human body, with animals, plants and even the stars, hence, Helix Root is an apt centrepiece for Aurora Park which wishes to help people reconnect with the nature around them.
Aurora Park at Nuanu Creative City exemplifies the fusion of nature, art, and technology to create a space where people can reconnect with the environment. Through biodegradable rattan sculptures and interactive light installations, the park offers visitors an immersive experience while addressing the lack of accessible green spaces in Bali. By collaborating with local artists and incorporating artificial intelligence, the park not only promotes sustainability but also innovation.
