Eremita’s Detailed Drawings of Nature: On the Beauty of the Vastness of Our Planet

Brazilian artist Eremita creates enchanting and detailed ink drawings of nature. Each piece is a contemplation of nature’s vastness, as each stroke from his ink fountain pen outlines all the little components that come together to create a natural scenery. When drawing a field of grass, Eremita portrays everything from each blade of grass, to trees, birds, and even microorganisms in the soil. This detailed nature of his work, allows  his viewers to be more mindful of how so many different living and nonliving components come together to create Mother Nature’s harmonious yet delicate existence.

From time-to-time, traces of human life can also be found in Eremita’s drawings. Yet these elements, that manifest as either a lone barn house or a boat seen from a distance, is never the focal point of a single piece. In Eremita’s work, humanity exists as one section of the whole scenery, a part that is never intrusive or causes damage to their surroundings, emphasizing the environmental messages contained in his work. Parallels can also be made with the symbolic meaning in Eremita’s choice to work exclusively with an ink fountain pen.

As a medium, ink line drawings call for the perfect balance between natural and man-made materials. While fountain pens are of-course  man-made inventions, inks have since prehistoric times been made out of natural ingredients. The paper they are etched on have also come from natural sources, albeit with human processing. Hence, both his drawing subjects and his medium of choice call for a more mindful approach to human activity, outlining an ideal existence where humanity lives without disrupting nature’s delicate balance. This is why the work that Eremita does is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of Life on Land and Responsible Consumption and Production.

Eremita’s intricate ink drawings serve as poetic meditations on the vastness and complexity of the natural world, reminding his viewers that every element—no matter how small—plays a role in the planet’s delicate balance. By minimizing the human presence in his work and choosing a medium that bridges the natural and the man-made, Eremita invites his audience to reflect on a more harmonious way of coexisting with the environment. His art not only honours nature’s quiet intricacy but also calls for a renewed sense of mindfulness, calling for global efforts toward sustainable living and ecological respect.
