SUSTAINABLE ART, IMPACTFUL COMMUNITY.

Based in the Hamilton Antique Mall, Toronto, Moonshine Vintage is part of a new wave of vintage/antique stores that carefully curates their trinkets, furniture and clothing to bring out the best of what vintage can offer. Moonshine Vintage in particular, offers quirky and fun pieces of furniture and clothing such as an ice cream cone shaped cookie jar and a kettle in the shape of a cow.

These fun and fresh pieces dispel the myth that secondhand furniture and clothing all have a certain out-dated aesthetics attached to them. They show instead that vintage can look very contemporary even if they were made all the way back in the 1960s. Because of this, Moonshine Vintages is able to have a large following on social media, reaching an audience of almost 20 thousand followers on Instagram alone.

This following shows how their catalogue is able to reach out to the masses. Going beyond existing collectors of vintage items and even converting skeptics of secondhand and vintage items. Moonshine Vintage Toronto is able to make vintage and secondhand items cool, making sure that more items that would otherwise have been discarded and ended up in landfills, live a longer lifespan. This is why the work that Moonshine Vintage Toronto does is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Responsible Consumption and Production.

According to the New York Times, in 2023, Americans alone threw out more than 12 million tons of furniture, a number that has grown 450 percent since the 1960s. This is why it is important to support small businesses such as Moonshine Vintage Toronto, as they ensure that the amount of furniture, clothing and trinket wastes are cut down. Moonshine Vintage Toronto challenges the outdated perception of secondhand goods by curating stylish, quirky vintage furniture and clothing that appeal to modern tastes. By making secondhand shopping accessible and desirable, they extend the lifespan of items that might otherwise end up in landfills. Their work not only promotes sustainability but also proves that vintage can be both fashionable and eco-friendly.
